Hanwha chairman Kim Seung-yeon 'smiles' after home opener win

Ryu Hyun-jin made his first appearance in a KBO League regular-season home game in 12 years. Although he had to wait until the next game to get his first win back, Ryu was all smiles as his team won. The ace's performance was made even better by Lim Jong-chan, who paved the way for the team's victory.

Ryu started the home opener of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against the KT Wiz at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Sept. 29 and pitched six innings of eight-hit ball, striking out nine and walking two.

Ryu was matched up against KT's ace starter William Cuevas. Cuevas pitched seven innings of two-run ball and the game came down to a bullpen battle. In the final battle of concentration, Hanwha had the last laugh.

Hanwha Peraza led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double. With runners on first and second, Lim Jong-chan stepped up to the plate. Lim hit a game-winning single to left-center field to give Hanwha a 3-2 victory. Hanwha has now won five straight games after dropping the opening game.

Ryu Hyun-jin didn't get the win, but his quality start set the stage for the team's victory, and Lim Jong-chan was the hero of the home opener in Daejeon. Hanwha President Kim Seung-yeon was all smiles after the dramatic victory at the Daejeon Baseball Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Kia Tigers raced out to a four-game winning streak to open the season. Kia defeated the Doosan Bears 4-2 in the nightcap. A pushing double in the top of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie, and Lee Chang-jin's RBI single in the top of the eighth made it 3-2. Jeong Jung-young overcame a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to earn her third save of the season.

The Lotte Giants picked up their first win after four straight losses. They defeated the NC Dinos 3-1 at home in Busan. Starter Wilkerson pitched six and a third innings of one-run ball (unearned) before Jeon Jun-woo's tying solo shot and RBI singles by Choi Hyang and Yoo Kang-nam broke the game open with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

The SSG Landers defeated the Samsung Lions 6-4 behind a strong pitching 스포츠토토 performance from Kim Kwang-hyun. Kim pitched six innings of one-run ball to earn his second win of the season and 160th career victory (fourth in KBO history). Choi Ji-hoon, Han Yoo-seom, Ha Jae-hoon, and Choi Jeong-jeong were cannon fodder for the team.

Choi increased his career home run total to 462, moving within five of Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop's all-time record of 467.

The LG Twins extended their winning streak to three games with a 3-0 victory over the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul. Starting pitcher Enns pitched six innings of three-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and no walks. Kiwoom snapped a four-game losing streak to open the season.
