recently purchased the E-II Horizon III in Reindeer Blue, and I have to ask-why is only the neck finished in satin while the back of the body remains glossy? I’ve owned the LTD Elite version of this guitar for over 10 years, so I was excited to upgrade to the E-II when I found out the neck had a satin finish instead of gloss, as it makes playing much smoother.

I expected a gradual transition between the satin neck and glossy body, but on my guitar, the contrast is quite harsh, almost like a cut-out triangle, which doesn’t look very pleasing. Even the binding on the neck abruptly shifts from satin to glossy, which feels like an unusual design choice.

That aside, it’s an absolutely stunning guitar!

What is the current lead time on these as of 11/12/2023?

I bought this guitar used, I already have two LTD active pickups, but I also wanted passive pickups, less metal type. this guitar is really fantastic, very light, a super fast neck, and the shape makes the neck close to the body. when a microphone, they have nothing to envy of the active ones, high output level, lots of bass and treble, it sounds, very versatile, Jazz, Rock, hard, metal... everything goes.

I got one used and love it, can you tell me the material of the frets? Also does esp offer pickup swaps? I'd prefer the Pegasus and sentient set over the jazz and custom 5.

After years of being in the running, and going with Jackson and schecter, this may be the one.  Currently down to an American Jag, a couple modern Gibson's, Ibanez prestige 6 and 7s, and a head 6, along with this.  The horizon seems to be the one slowly growing on me.  Absolutely stunning guitar, and I use mostly Duncan's, but this is my first experience with the custom 5 and the jazz, and man does this sound versatile.

I noticed that the push pull is on the tone knob. Right handed guitar.

Also, the volume knob is just a little loose. I have 4 other ESP guitars and the knobs in those are absolutely tight.

I tried another horizon-iii guitar and even that was “slightly” wobbly. Is that normal?

I've seen these come to Sweetwater with gloss and satin necks. Are they coming in both now or are you moving to satin necks on these Horizon III's?

Todd B. ESP

Hello, we've switched to satin necks for all the E-II models. You will see the site updated as soon as we are able to.

  • I got this guitar few days ago. It s perfect... But when i play it unplugged without amp i hear noticable fret buzz on E and A till 12 fret.. In amp on dirty Chanel its ok on ckean you can hear it but not that much.. I know that extra low action might be the cause but its weird all i read about this extra fretwork with no buzz.. Maybe ill have to setup the guitar.. Maybe its normal.. Its a shame if they didnt do setup beacuse this guitar in croatia cost 2300e and thats almost 3k dollars.. But guitar is perfect except that fret buzz... Tnx

Carl N.

It's normal for an instrument to need a setup after traveling such long distances, if you have any questions you may reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@espguitars.com or https://www.espguitars.com/pages/support

Always spend a little on a pro setup on a guitar like this, unless you can do it yourself.  Most of mine have come pretty good from factory, but there's always little tiny things you could find that need a little tweak from factory.  The hand built, maybe a different story.  I feel like spending this much, stats 50-80 dollars extra to have everything on point.

Can a tremolo system be installed in this guitar without affecting the sound/pickups?

I bought this guitar second hand and I have to say its one of the best guitars I've ever played - it feels just as good as guitars three times the price. The SD custom 5 and Jazz pickups sound incredible for anything from blues to black metal. Most notably the frets feel unbelievably good - better than my Ibanez prestige, custom Carvin, and Music man JP7. Its my go to guitar for recording and live performances. Not to mention its purple like raindeer eyes in the winter!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this guitar, glad you are enjoying it!

John M.

I love the body shape so much.  The headstock shape fits it really well too.  Wish this color came in floyd rose.  And I wish more colors were offered without a see through flame top.  Also perhaps with a more flat top without the bevel.

Carl N.

Thanks for the recommendations

JUST ONE MORE ESP GUITAR FOR ME! I wish this model had a 7 string option like Ray from Deviloof's custom.

Thanks for sharing your collection!

I've read conflicting information about the top. Is it mahogany with a maple top or mahogany with a veneer, or mahogany with a maple top and a veneer?  Thanks!

Allan B.

Pardon me, Alder not mahogany.  Duhhh

This is probably going to be my next guitar.  I just wish the purple one came with a floyd. While I'm wishing, I wish they had this model with the purple sparkle and red sparkle paint jobs.  I originally owmed a Queensryche neck thru with the logo, back in the day. It's what made me love ESP.

If we could release all of our model shapes in every color, pickup configuration, and bridge style we would but unfortunately we can only offer so much at a time.  Hope you enjoy whatever it is you end up getting!

Hi Carl N.

I totally understand. You have to draw a line somewhere. Can't hurt to suggest though I figured.

I love it that ESP is even listening and concerned enough to contact it's customer's and answer questions on here.  Way to go and get and keep customers ESP. Great Company. Great products.
