PLEASE make this in straight gloss black with a satin neck (ESP Japan has it)! Luminlay would be nice touch too

Got this guitar second hand but in brand new condition (2021 model).
I don’t usually leave reviews but this guitar is just phenomenal.
I am very impressed.

The finish is superb. Simple design but flawless. The neck is just perfect. The best neck I ever put my hands on. This is very subjective but for me it is not too thin or too wide. The 12” radius is great. I’m used to compound radius on guitars like this (12 to 16 on Charvel and Schecter) but I found no real difference and I find it more comfortable and easier to play.

The Floyd Rose returns to pitch perfectly and is very smooth.

Pickups are great for the genre, can melt your face but still some nice cleans. Might tried something else at some point but very happy with them.

The feeling of quality is on par with my PRS 24 USA which is the best and most expensive guitar I have.

Next guitar will likely be another ESP!

Is it a veneer top or an actual maple cap?

I bought this guitar about a year ago. I knew that I was buying a rock and heavy metal machine but I have to admit that I was surprised by its versatility, especially the clean sound from the middle position. The neck is awesome, really confortable and very fast. It is a beautiful guitar with a very high quality finishes. I'm really happy with this guitar and I highly recommend it.

not a review but a simple question, if i wanted this guitar made out of a certain wood such as mahogany, can that be done? just in case your going to ask, yes i've owned a esp before, i used to own a MII custom.

I'm trying to decide between Esp USA, and Esp E-II japan.

Are the necks very different?

Greetings ESP team! I would like to know why strings with the following gauges (.009-.042) are mounted on guitars with Floyd Rose and why most of those without are mounted with strings with the following gauges (.010-.046). I have also noticed this detail on other brands of guitars as well, Ibanez to name but one. Sorry if my question is a bit weird and thanks for your answer! Anyway, I love your guitars! Keep up the good work!

Would you say that there's an ample, noticeable difference between the Extra Thin U (M-200FM) compared to this Thin U neck contour? In consideration to comfort and playability, seems to be something easily adjustable, but idk.

Todd B. ESP

Hi, both necks are extremely comfortable. There is only 1mm of difference in thickness, so I would say try out the Thin U and you might be pleasantly surprised.

most LTD version guitars have 350mm neck radius, the 305mm/12' radius is what makes the neck fast and comfortable IMO.  I have a Gus G NT 2010 with same neck specs as this and it plays fast and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a fast playing comfortable neck.

I have this in the cherry burst finish, rare I guess because it’s not made anymore. Now, understand that I’m pretty obsessive when it comes to tinkering with my guitars. Nothing is ever perfect when I get it - there are always several things I want to change.  Tuning heads, pickups, pickup rings, pots, knobs, nuts, you name it, I’m going to assess whether or not it needs to be changed. Not with this one.  I’ve made one mod to this one.

I love the EMG 81/81 set - after all, it’s a big part of what made Metallica’s tone back in their glory days - it’s a very strong choice for any shredder -type guitar. But relatively recently ESP put out the pickup set that is, in my opinion, the best mass-produced set available, and that’s the Hetfield signature set.  So I got a set of F-spaced Hets (you MUST get the F-spaced for this guitar or your sound will be sorely diminished!) and plugged them in - took 10 minutes. And now I have a guitar that Hetfield himself would be happy to play on stage (if he was a strat player, that is).

Oh, and I also sanded down the back of the neck with a scotch-Brite type pad so it’s no longer a gloss finish and my thumb doesn’t stick when I’m trying to move around.  I do this with every finished guitar, including the most expensive.  That sticky neck is unacceptable.  If ESP was to make one change, it should be to make the neck a satin finish.

So with the Hets in there, the tone is otherworldly (it was already spectacular with the 81s).  The playability of this machine is almost flawless.  It responds instantaneously with glorious sound to the slightest touch of the strings. It’s actually hard to get this guitar to go OUT of tune - I play it for a week at a time without having to adjust the fine tuning knobs.

So far in my guitar playing journey, I’ve never played anything that does a better job of putting my hands in touch with the sounds i’m making, if that makes any sense to anyone out there.  It’s like a direct interface that works WITH you - HELPS you make your music.  The rest of the guitars I’ve played we’re all instruments I had to bend to my will, so to speak.  This one is different, and I now understand why people pay big money for the guitars that are made the right way. I would LOVE to save up for one of their $4000 standard ESP M models to see how much farther they’re really able to take this excellence.

Todd B. ESP

Hi Paul, Thank you for sharing your experience and glad to hear how much you liked our product and that it needed very minor mods. Your mods are excellent choices by the way. I'm sure it will help other players decide on models and direction, thanks again!

Why did the price increase to 2199?

I've noticed all the floyd equipped m series have alder bodies but the hard tails are mahogany, any reason other than keeping cost down?

I just snatched this guitar and i got to say im very pleased by the build quality, i can obviously see and feel the Japanese craftsmanship in this metal machine, really good work,  i hope you consider the sustainiac pickup in your future models. Thanks ESP.

Carl N.

glad you're enjoying it and thanks for the suggestion!

Chrétien C.

I bought this guitar one month ago and I sent it back because there was white marks on some edges, dust behind the gloss, lime marks on the fretboard and gloss split next to the head floyd's lock... I'received a second one and it has exactly the same issues. That's not that visible but for 2k euros, I expect perfect finition. I'm considering to send it back too and ask for a definitive refund and a goodbye to esp. Very desapointed.

Hello Carl ! I wrote an email to the customer service who said to me to write there :

info soud-service eu

Nearly two weeks after, no response at all...

It's sad because I love that guitar but as Thomann has a 30 days return policy, I sent it back again.

So yeah, I sent abck two models of that guitar....

Abdulla R.

Chrétien C. Yeah this is the problem with online purchases, i learned my lesson, i always get to see the guitar in physical and try it before buying. if that is not possible, ask for the actual photos for the guitar (not stock). it is a matter of luck to get a very clean and ready to play guitar stored in huge warehouses, always look for actual photos. Good luck.

Kevin F.

Love the guitar own one but can’t u guys consider making another finish option because now I’ve bought all the M-2s may I suggest a cobalt blue for cherry burst?

I got a secondhand one of these in immaculate condition. The only thing I find frustrating is the fret markers.. they look great, but I get lost above the 12 the fret when shredding. Other than that, one beautiful guitar
