Jus wen I ran out of bucks....

Willy Wonka

Just picked one of these up. Was really by accident to be honest. Never would have expected the build quality from a lower tier LTD like the EC-256 to be THIS good. I couldn't help myself from buying it. I was literally blown away by the quality especially in the little detail areas. Neck is perfect. Good fretwork. I don't think the shop would have done any setup on it before hanging it on the wall, so if that's truly the case, it was setup perfectly right out of the box. Pickups also to my surprise sound really good. No desire to swap them. Top looks killer too. Love the color!

Question for ESP:
Sweetwater has this model listed with Rosewood fretboard, this site says roasted jatoba.  Which is correct?

Hello,
I'm from Bangladesh. I wanted to buy a new ESP LTD EC256FM in Cobalt Blue color. The official distributor of ESP LTD in Bangladesh is 'WORLD MUSIC'. All the EC256FM models are the same price and when I told them that I want the Cobalt blue color, they increased the Cobalt Blue colored one. Is this right to increase the price in this way after knowing what color I want? I request you to change the distributor from them. They don't even want us to play in the shop. This is a total disgrace about a musical store where we can't play guitar before buying.

Nicholas M.

I just purchased this guitar as a new little upgrade project.  A few review notes:

1. The color of it is very different from what is shown on this page, so I highly recommend googling additional pictures of this specific guitar to verify it's what you want.  I did exactly that, and purchased this model based on those pictures alone, as I'm not at all a fan of the shade of blue shown on the ESP website.  That being said, in person the guitar is much more of a pale blue/green, somewhat like a tropical ocean color.  It's absolutely beautiful, but again, I would look up additional images to verify it's a color you would like.

2. I bought mine from a 3rd party retailer, and while it overall arrived in excellent condition, the fretboard itself was in not-so-great condition, as if the guitar had been sitting in a warehouse for some time before being shipped.  The strings were clearly very old, the fretboard was extremely dirty/grimy, and the frets were tarnished - causing any bends to feel like they were grinding against cheap plastic.  Of course, this is all easily fixable with some standard cleaning and treatment, so if you're reading this and yours arrived in similar condition, it just needs some routine cleaning and new strings.  But I advise against judging the quality of the guitar before getting it properly cleaned up.

3.  The stock pickups aren't actually too bad, they're quite balanced and versatile.  They're a bit muddy of course, but the neck pickup actually has some decent clarity and bite to it that I've enjoyed noodling around with.  That being said, I will be upgrading to some Seymour Duncans to beef it up a bit.

Overall, I was actually surprised at how high quality this model is.  Outside of some fretboard dirtiness (I blame the retailer), I couldn't find any damage or signs of lazy construction whatsoever.  I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new guitar in this price range, you won't be disappointed.

Bonjour, je suis tout nouveau sur le site.

C'est seulement un site pour consulter des instruments, il n'y a pas les prix?

Merci beaucoup,

Bought a EC-256 LTD cobalt Blue recently....great guitar for the money..Question? ...its not staying in tune very well, has anyone encountered this and/ or is there an easy/ cheap fix

Im afraid to gig with it going out so quickly......any advise PLEASE

Todd B. ESP

Hi Gary, Glad you like your guitar.

Any guitar may experience tuning issues from time to time. We recommend a professional setup to address any issues. Usually tuning problems can be addressed by new strings, tightening any parts the strings come in contact with, adjusting the neck and stretching strings. These are pretty standard points that can be addressed.

You can also find our general setup specs and guidelines in our owner's manual on our website support section here: https://cdn.connectsites.net/user_files/esp/site_assets/000/000/436/original.pdf

Please keep in mind that most players have their own personal preferences when it comes to things like string action and relief, so we recommend you start with our general guideline and tweak it from there to meet your playing needs.

If replacing pickups, would the bridge pole spacing be 50 or 53mm?

Todd B. ESP

HI, you would use a standard pole piece spacing pickup. Please note that every pickup manufacturer may be slightly different. 50mm is closes to the string spacing at the bridge pickup.

YabbieBell

Hey, just looking at upgrading the pickups to either Seymore Duncans or bare knuckles, was wondering what the current pickups are, e.g. alnico 2, alnico 5? is there anything I need to consider when switching the pickups? Will make sure they are splittable

thanks.

Todd B. ESP

Hi, either pickup will work fine for you. Current pickups are ceramic. It's up to you what you want to put in there, just make sure the new pickup you put in is 4 conductor wiring so you can split them.

Dahlia Berkowitz

Can anyone tell me or send a close up picture if the frets are really extra jumbo they don't look any different to other guitars in the pics provided.

Thank you

Todd B. ESP

Hi, please contact our customer service team directly and they can assist you. Our standard XJ size may vary slightly from what you may find on another brand. Our frets size measure 1.4mm X 2.7mm, this is our XJ standard size. It would be best to use measurements rather than a picture.

Here is our customer service email: customerservice@espguitars.com

Todd C.

Frets on mine are 2.3 mm tall by 3.4 mm thick.  For comparison, my Ibanez RG is 2.8 mm tall by 3.5 mm thick.  Measured at the 12th fret.

I have an EC 256 FM and I don’t know which direction the switch needs to be for rhythm or lead guitar, I also don’t know which knob controls the neck or bridge pickup either. Can someone help me out?

Hey, I'm wanting to put Schaller Locking tuners in my Ec-256 FM, do you Know which tuners will fit? Looking at the website the M6 135 look like the best option but what post will fit? Thanks

Carl N.

All aftermarket tuners will vary slightly and may require modifications in order to fit and function properly on your instrument.  If you are unfamiliar with this kind of work I would advise that you have a professional technician perform this type of modification for you to avoid any unwanted damage to your instrument.

Matthew G.

Is this guitar the same size as the EC-10?

Carl N.

all EC instruments will have the same general shape, though some specifications between models may vary

Conrad F.

Hello, what is the difference between EC-256FM  and EC-256?  The 2020 new models like See Thru Black Cherry  not have "FM". Whats mean FM?  Thanks.

Carl N.

FM = Flamed Maple

Hope this helps!

Ploy L.

Hello, May I ask how much is the weight of the guitar? Thanks in advance!

Carl N.

About 8lbs

Sim R.

Thanks for the reply, but it’s slimmer and faster than the Epi/Gibson slim taper D, no?

Carl N.

Sorry, I don't know any Gibson specs off hand, my life revolves around ESP

Scott B.

Yeah the Eclipse's are slimmer necks than a Les Paul. Although the LP moderns are more like Eclipse. If that helps at all.
