How is the thin u neck? I want sth that plays fast and with these specs and my bare knuckle pickups at home, it seems like a great modding project guitar! Neck is the big thing for me tho, as I shred jazz and don’t want a fat neck! Cheers in advance!
The feel of an instrument's neck is very subjective, I'd recommend checking this out or any other of our thin U shaped necks in person to see if it is the right fit for you.
Also will those pickups be any significant upgrade over the stock ones.??
Tone is a subjective topic, some may see it as an upgrade to change the pickups and some may be content with the tone they are already receiving. Just like everyone has their own favorite color, everyone has their own tonal preferences.
What is the specification of pots for this guitar..?
Does the wiring or pots need any replacing when the pickups are upgraded to Seymour Duncan 59 4Con/JB ??
They'll be 500K pots, replacing them would be up to you when you perform the swap. Be sure to have this done by a professional to avoid any unwanted damage to your instrument.
I have one of these that I purchased at my local dealer in September of 2019 and I absolutely love it. It stays in tune pretty good and it feels great in my hands. The ESP designed LH-150 humbuckers sound really nice and I can split them to boot. This guitar, for me anyways is a great entry level guitar that will grow with you. There is not one single thing I don't like about this guitar, thanks ESP for making such a fine guitar in this price range.
Thank you for your wonderful review Carlos!
we need this color on more models
Thanks for the suggestion Jim!
This model but with a ec-1000 specs, that would be mind-blowing.
Hey Carlos, how about this EC-1000?
Hey guys I wanna get this model from Davis guitars at singapore. But they dont have it in stock. Can I pre order one or could you send one in so I can buy it?
Hey Muhammad, you'll have to work with your local distributor in order to get this model in your area, which would be Davis Guitar. They should have no issue putting this guitar on order for you.
Hi ESP
I’m thinking of changing the pickups and tuners to my ex-256 cobalt blue, I still want humbuckers with the coil split, but I want the humbuckers to be pretty versatile, cause I play classic rock, to grunge, to metal.
and my strings keep on getting out of tune, and I would love locking tuners, recommend any that won’t damage this guitar?
thanks
*ec 256
Hi Yabbie, Any Seymour Duncan pickup with 4 conductor wires will allow you to keep the split coil feature. They have a lot of pickups to choose from. I suggest you go on their website or forums to ask around. Think about the way the current pickups sound. Which direction do you want to go from the current sound? Do you want a higher output? Warmer tone? These are some things to consider. Our pickups are about medium output, not considered a hot output. Typically for lots of gain most players prefer a hotter output, however, when you have a pickup that has a really high output , the tone is not so clear. Many excellent players I've met and worked with over the years prefer a lower output pickup which keeps their signal pure or clean from the guitar. Beyond that it's up to the amp and effects to create your distorted sound. Switching to any type of Alnico pickup would give you a "rounder" or "warmer" tone if you're looking to go in that direction. For upgrading to locking tuners, I would suggest either Hipshot or Ratio by Graphtech, but there are also other brands out there that work fine.
I have this guitar and absolutely love it! For tuning try some lube at the nut, mine doesn't lose tune often. As far as upgrade pickups, I recommend Seymour Duncan 59 for the neck and JB4 for the bridge. Perfect combo for your genres and still splitable (Charvel has this on their san dimas hh). I plan on this pickup mod in the future for my guitar.
Hi esp, I was wondering, because my g tuning peg keeps going loose and makes the string go out of tune everytime I play my guitar, what locking tuners would you suggest I buy. I have always wanted to upgrade the tuners but I have been scared of damaging the guitar like what I did by putting strap locks on the guitar as it shredded the threading in the wood. I would most likely take it to a shop to have them put them on but was wondering what brand/model you would recommend.
Thanks, Fraser
Hi Fraser, You can tighten the hardware and mounting screw on your current tuner, that should help you with your current issue. If you want to upgrade to replacement tuners, you will not always find a brand that fits our mounting hole exactly. Some locking tuners including our own version use pins located under the housing, so there is no mounting screw "leg" like current tuners. I would recommend either Hipshot or Ratio tuners from Graphtech.
Hi there, I have one of these guitars and it is the Chinese model of it having the ec 256 on the truss rod cover. I was wondering how I could find out what year the guitar was made as the serial number is: RS18051589
Thanks
these are the photos
It’s the same year mine was made, I’m interested now!
Hi Yabbie, I was wondering, if your guitar is the same year as mine, do you have any clue as to what year it was made. Thank you.
Hi Fraser, Your guitar was produced in 2018. Please email our customer service team for more specific requests such as this as we prefer those inquiries go to our customer service team. Their email is customerservice@espguitars.com .
Thank you Todd B. ESP, that lifted stress on finding the year, thank you. - Fraser
Hey Fraser, Glad I could help!
Hi, i am from indonesia.
Where i can buy this guitar? Thank you
Hi Afit, Nice to hear from you. Please check our list of international distributors on our website and you should be able to contact them to find out where you can buy this guitar. Here is a link to our distributor page: https://www.espguitars.com/locations?categories=intl-distributors
Hi,
i absolutely love this guitar, but have realised that there is wax in the humbuckers, is this my fault or is this normal?
The white stuff in the circular area (don’t know what it is called sorry)
Hi Yabbie, This is nothing to worry about. All pickups are built with a coil of wire around each bobbin and they need to be sealed tightly inside the pickup cover so they don't move around (causes feedback). So most pickup manufacturers seal the coils with a process called "potting" with wax and a vacuum system. You can easily wipe off the wax residue with a soft polishing cloth. Nothing to worry about.
Thanks
Hi!
I really want to buy this guitar.
Had an opportunity to play it a while ago.
But what bugs me is the warning on the guitar which says it contains Titanium dioxide particles and Methanol which may cause cancer and reproductive issues. Should I be really worried about this? Is there anything I can do so that I can get rid of the Titanium dioxide and methanol on this guitar somehow or take some safety measures?
Thanks.
I have an acoustic with the same warning, different brand tho, Butler used it for years and I’m fine. It’s probably just a warning as it may cause cancer, but it isn’t a big deal, as only California are looking into this, and no other places
Yeah! I hope so! It's crazy how many guitars have this warning these days! I bought the guitar and its a good buy for the money!
Hi Aditya, Hope you like the guitar!
Hi Aditya, For items sold in California all businesses are required to report miniscule amounts of elements which the state of California lists on their Proposition 65 list for carcinogens.
Exposure by inhalation or contact is not likely on an electric guitar. Swallowing or ingesting any guitar parts is not recommended.
Hi, I have 2 questions;
1) I just got this guitar in Sydney, Australia and it doesn’t have the ‘flag’ on the 12th fret, but has the Ec 256 thingy on the headstock, is this still a legit guitar?
2) where was this guitar made? MIM? MIA? MIJ?
thanks
You’re very lucky. It’s one of the originals before they switched factories to Indonesia. Probably Korea made?
Hi Joseph, we did not make these in Korea.
Also is it normal for the volume knobs to be really high off the body? I like it and it works perfectly fine, I just haven’t seen that before
Hi YabbieBell, Yes it is normal because there is an arch on the body shape so the knob has to sit high enough to clear the higher side of the arch shape and will appear to be higher on the bottom side of the arch (hope this makes sense).
And the guitar I got is much brighter in colour, is that normal? I really like it and it feels great to play
Hi YabbieBell, Yes colors can vary slightly depending on original wood color and production time. Glad you like it.
Hi YabieBell, yes your guitar is our most recent version. We have not updated our website photo yet but are working on it. Depends on your serial number, but it will say the country where it was made on the back of the headstock. We have made that model in Vietnam, China and Indonesia, not Korea. Yes colors can vary slightly, and it's normal for the knobs to be high off the body because of the arch shape. We hope you like it!
Yeah it’s made in China, great guitar, highly recommended if low budget!
Hi YabbieBell, thanks for confirming that. Glad to hear how much you like it!
Hello, Im looking to buy an ec series guitar and thinking between a 256 and an older 401fm model. What does the 401 ones offer over the 256 models? Thank you in advance.
Hi Yigit, The 400 series model would come with higher end pickups like EMG or SEymour Duncan, as well as Grover tuners. Other than that they are pretty similar build.
Hi. I just bought a ec 256 fm cobalt blue. And it's made in China. And it doesn’t have the “ec 256” on hr 12th fret. While my ec 256 lemon drop from Vietnam has it. Is it normal?
Hi Muhammad, Yes this is normal. In the past we put our model name inside a block at the 12th fret. Last year we changed this and so now all our guitars have the model name on the truss rod cover and not on the 12th fret.
Are the pickups ceramic or alnico? If alnico, which magnet type (2, 5, etc)?
Hello Kingrazor, These pickups are ceramic.
I bought this guitar a few months back and I must say I love it more than my prs. Looks great, sounds amazing and plays like a dream
Would love to see this with a floyd
Yes, but if the Floyd Rose bridge was added, the pricing of the guitar would be more expensive. And there are other Ltd Eclipse/Ec guitars which have Floyd Rose bridges but with a higher price.
hope that helps
Hi Yabbie, Yes you are correct. FR brigge usually ads to the price because it costs more than a standard tune-o-matic bridge.
