Like all guitars in the LTD 256 range, the Viper-256 delivers far more than you expect for its reasonable price tag. Using the ESP Viper shape with its outstanding double-horn styling, the Viper-256 uses traditional set-neck construction at 24.75” scale. It pairs a mahogany body with a thin u-shaped three-piece mahogany neck. Its roasted jatoba fingerboard has pearloid ESP flag inlays and 22 extra-jumbo frets, a design which maximizes the sweet spot for the neck pickup. Components on the Viper-256 include a black multi-ply pickguard, LTD tuners, a TOM bridge with tailpiece, and a set of punchy, powerful ESP LH-150 humbucking pickups with a push-pull control on the tone knob for coil splitting.

I bought this guitar because I always wanted to try this style. I chose this one because it felt extremely well made right off the bat, it’s super light, and the roasted fretboard shouldn’t shrink here in the dry climate of Colorado. I made a few changes; i put the Guyker trem and string butler on, and i switched the pickups for the bare knuckle polypaf set.

This guitar sounded pretty good before the mods, but the pickups felt like they were designed for metal. The guitar itself unplugged was already so rich with harmonics I knew if i got more dynamic pickups in it it would do everything.

I’m a lifelong strat guy and i have to say, this is my favorite guitar now.
