Are these gloss or matte? Guitar Centers website says satin but i thought the snow white ones were gloss.
if you have any questions you may reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@espguitars.com or https://www.espguitars.com/pages/support
The white ones are gloss and the black ones are matte
Hello Esp
Got the Ltd snakebyte a week ago and to be truthful i was fearful of the last year's complaints about quality control on these.
My snakebyte had terrible fretwork problems and the cherry on top was the fact that they are going to be available again on February.
Anyway i just wanted to ask if you are going to change something referring to their quality control as it seems that the problems started appearing when you moved the guitar to indonesia plus you guys bumped the price quite a lot but whatever.
I just wanna know if you are going to do anything about the issues because it is clearly not an isolated incident.

Not sure what this is pointing out but if you have any questions or concerns you may reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@espguitars.com or https://www.espguitars.com/pages/support
Are the Snakebytes going to be discontinued? I noticed that if i place an order with you for one it says "pre-order available in October". That makes me worry that these are not going to be around much longer and I really want one so should I make sure to order it sooner than later?
These are current models that are currently not in stock till October. Not being discontinued, hope this helps.
Highly doubtful... The problem is most likely pandemic / covid related problems with shipping and manufacturing.
I just got a used one and it’s an amazing guitar, but it’s missing the battery cover and screws. Is there any place I can buy another set? Tried searching fruitlessly for a while earlier.
For assistance with obtaining replacement parts you may reach out to our service department at customerservice@espguitars.com
Can anybody tell me what the body thickness of this model is? More specifically, will it take an aftermarket Evertune installation without too much trouble? Thanks
Should be about 40mm, though this instrument was designed for use with tune-o-matic bridge so you may run into some issues installing another bridge system on this.
Hi Esp.
This sucks! I’m in the UK so the Snakebyte’s are pretty scarce.
Anyway I’ve been trying since december to get a good one.. this is the 3rd.. plagued with QC issues, at least over the pond here, and its gutting.
This arrived today from a major chain and authorised dealer, and it was brand new apparently just in from the UK supplier...
I mean, I have better quality photos but I’ll explain.
Theres a crack running from the nut down across the neck, and the whole area feels rough as though its laden with overspray.
There are similar finish cracks across the body in various places.
The nut itself is cut way too low on the bass strings. Its buzzing like crazy, open or fretted.
The fretboard is just a huge mess. There are random holes all over it, which from my research appear to be worm holes??
There are tooling marks across the length of it, with what looks like a tear off of the end next to the neck pup, and some of the frets themselves have been polished so roughly they look like they’ve had a years use.
The authorised dealer told me this was on order from their supplier, and so the day the store got it they sent it to me. (Friday just gone).
These usually come wrapped in the foam bag/sheath and with a little foam disc over the selector switch, but this one had neither.
It also has a random half torn sticker with 13 written on it on the backplate?! What the hell..
I mean obviously I’ll have to contact the dealer and send it back, but its so gutting. Hardly anywhere in the UK has any in stock so its next to impossible to find a replacement.
Even so, this is the 3rd one I’ve tried.. sucks because I really dont want to give up on owning an Explorer, and in white!
I believe I have some pictures of the 2nd I tried somewhere too. That was a Korean 2019 made model.
This one is a 2020 Korean model.
Dont know what to do :(
Sorry you are having such trouble with this particular model, if you'd like to send these images to our customer service department at customerservice@espguitars.com we can take a better look at it to see what is going on. You may want to see about getting your next one from your local ESP distributor, the would import these models into your region for your local ESP dealers.
Thanks for your reply Carl.
Yeah I did contact them earlier in the week but they said as I’m in the Uk there isnt much they can assist with.
I’ve since contacted Sound Service who are the Uk distributor however I’m not sure what they’ll be able to do either, as I don’t think they sell direct to customers, but I’m not 100% sure as I havent heard from them in the last couple of days.
Currently I’m waiting for the store who are an authorised Esp dealer to collect the guitar and issue a refund.
They did mention they had another one on order from the supplier (Sound Service), but there is no ETA, and it would mean just waiting and hoping a better one turned up.
Thanks for the response though, I do appreciate it bud.
Hopefully I’ll be able to land a good one soon.
I recently received my brand new LTD Snakebyte, in White color. I’ve noticed a thin, clear plastic film wrapped over both pick ups. Do I need to take these off? If so, I cannot easily take off the plastic because the plastic ends extend into the body of the EMG pick ups and will not easily pull out. It feels like I’m going to pull up the EMGs as well! I’ve attached a picture for further reference. This one was made in Indonesia.
you can just pull them off, they protect the pickups from scratches till they reach the consumer
Can these be done custom like color, pu’s, hardware??? Hate to buy a used one to spend money to redo it if can be custom shop done thru you guys instead and done right. Thanks.
Hi Gary, thanks for your question. These signature models are sold as is, so it's not possible to change hardware or customize colors.
Where is this guitar made?
Hey Nookster, these are currently produced in both Indonesia and Korea. Hope this helps!
Hey there, please excuse the new account I had to make solely to comment, I’ve owned this guitar via second-hand purchase in Australia and a year back I accidentally screwed the pickup height whilst tightening the pickup guards, so I would *really* appreciate if i could get the default factory height for the pickups
Hey Cooper, EMGs can be set very close to the strings. You can fret the instrument at the last fret and use this as a guide for setting pickup height. If you're uncomfortable with this process I'd recommend having a technician setup your instrument for you. Best of luck!
Hi Todd,
Hope you're well. I've had my Snakebyte for 8 years now and I've worn through pretty much all the components (it's my daily driver). I've especially destroyed the TOM piece (specifically the saddles, photo attached).
Mine is the original run LTD Snakebyte with the EMG 81/60 & Sperzels instead of the Het set & ESP tuners. Hell of a guitar man, I even removed the paint off the neck for a better feel (way before James did his). Man it's a beast! I've taken it to hell and back and it is still here chugging along.
Anyway, my question is, could you tell me exactly what model of Tonepros TOM is on this model? I'm getting a replacement saddle set from Graphtec (their self lubricating ones are amazing) and I'd like to be sure of which exact model it is before dropping some cash on it.
I'm refinishing the guitar with some custom artwork (Cthulhu answearing a call with a comic speech bubble, or that's the idea anyway) and as such, all the parts are being switched out for new ones. Will share photos once it's done.
Thanks in advance, Todd & the folks over at ESP!
Best regards,
Aaron
Hey Aaron, wow!! Look at that bridge! That sure has seen some use over the years for sure. We use the Tonepros Metric bridge and tailpiece with the large posts. Here are the part numbers and links to Tonepros. T3BT Bridge and T1Z Tailpiece. They sell individually or as a set. Here is the page for their set: https://tonepros.com/lpm02-tonepros-metric-tuneomatictailpiece-set-large-posts/
Thank you for sharing your story and photos. It's always great to hear these stories and we really appreciate your feedback.
I recently purchased this guitar. I'm planning on upgrading the LTD Locking Tuners for Sperzel Locking tuners like the ESP version has. Am I able to just swap them out or do I have to modify it to make them fit? About half my guitars have Sperzel already installed, so I'd like this one to as well.
Hi Ben, you will only need to drill a new hole for the pin on a Sperzel which uses one pin in the center compared to the LTD which uses 2 pins on the outside part under the housing. You also may need to fill the old holes with a dowel.
Hi, really want to buy one of these do you send them around world wide? and is it only rent can i purchase instead?
Hi Luke, Our direct sales from our website are only for the US. If you live outside the US, please contact your local distributor or nearest dealer for your pricing. Here is a link to our distributor page: https://www.espguitars.com/locations?categories=intl-distributors
Recently i just bought a ESP LTD SNAKEBYTE, and i was goofing around and open up my back plate. Only to realise that the emg wiring kit is soldered to the pots. As to my understanding, EMG uses solderless wiring kit, and have a bus port or something whatever they wanna call it. But mine is without those. Is there much difference in sound on whether i use the solderless or soldered wiring kit? Someone please enlighten me, thanks.
Guitar should sound the same, the solderless connections are more for convenience than anything else. It allows you to replace components on the guitar without having to solder which makes it quicker to swap them out plus no cold solder joints to worry about too.
Thanks John!
HI Amirrul, We still use solder connections for most of our LTD products. There will be no sound difference at all. As John stated, the solderless connections are something EMG came up with to make it more convenient for swapping parts and "wiring" up guitars for the end user, but for a large scale factory environment, traditional solder connections are still primarily the way electronics are assembled. We do use solderless EMG components however, in our E-II and ESP USA & ESP Custom shop brands.
Hi, does the snow white version come with a glossy neck or a satin neck ?
Glossy, Snow White Neck
Hi Arnnav, sorry for the late reply here. Yes it is glossy just the same as the body finish.
Hello ESP,
I have 3 questions
1. When I received this guitar it said it came with a form fit case, but it didn’t. I kind of need one but I can’t afford nor buy one really where I live (Holland). Can you help me out?
2. Is there a difference in (darkness) of the ebony fretboard between the ESP custom shop and the LTD?
3. Do you have any info on whether James removed the finish of the neck on (one of) his [snow white] snakebyte? It’s seems as if he did but I don’t have any confirmation yet.
Thanks,
Dirk
Hi Dirk, We only started selling LTD signature models with case starting this year. You will need to check with your dealer or distributor if your guitar was supposed to come with case or not (there is a lower price for last year's model without case).
The darkness of fingerboards can vary from model to model, but generally the ESP custom shop will be a darker ebony compared to the LTD.
For your last question I cannot confirm it exactly but I have seen at least one of his guitars with the neck finish sanded down, however I'm not sure if it was the Snow white one. One word of caution: I always advise against sanding down the neck finish because if you sand too much you can actually make the neck weaker by either removing too much wood or finish.
Is the Snow White finish coated with Nitro or Poly? Trying to get an idea of how quickly it will yellow
Hi ben, We do not use any Nitro (laquer) finishes. This model and all production model LTD use Polyurethane. Generally pure white finishes can turn slightly yellow in time but shouldn't ever be drastic.
Which country is this guitar made in?
Hello Mark, We currently build this in Indonesia and Korea.
Hello, i recently order the ltd snakebyte from my local distributor. Can you please tell me the gauge and type of strings that the ltd snakebyte comes with (the esp faq page sais D'Addario 10s for non trem 6 strings, but seeing as this is a signature series it may have different type/gauge installed.
thanks in advance.
I know james plays with the Earnie ball power slinky 11-48 set. I personally really like Earnie ball paradigm 11-48. It’s basically just what your preference is.
Hello Mohammed, sorry for replying late to your question. We do use standard gauge D'Addario XL110 (.010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046).
My kind of guitar is the singlecut one but, well i made an exception with this modern Explorer-like shape. And do you know what ? You can play other metals riffs that those of metallica. It's works too (LOL).
I just hope that the white color is not going to go yellow in time (Have you information on this matter ?)
Hi Michael, Thanks for your question. It is common for white and other very light colors to turn slightly yellow with age due to the properties of polyurethane paints which are used for most guitar production. That being said, you should never notice any drastic change in color.
